Farewell after 33 years “Demolition party” at Bonn cult pizzeria Cala Dor

Bonn · All pizzas half price, free wine and the cult garlic sauce out of a washing up liquid bottle were the ingredients for Cala Dor’s farewell party on Friday evening.

The Cala Dor pizzeria at Bonn’s main train station, particularly popular with young people, has to move because the Südüberbauung (the buildings around the station) will soon be demolished. Georgios Giatzitzoglou has been running the pizzeria since 1983, for nearly 34 years, with his friend Tsousis Sotirios. The local restaurant is popular with students because after a night of dancing you can still get pizza there at 5am. “It feels a bit strange to be here during the day,” laughs one guest, Carsten (23). “But of course we wanted to be at the farewell party.”

As on party nights, it is mainly young people of student age at the big “Demolition Party.” So why do they love the pizzeria so much? “It's only here you can get homemade garlic sauce out of a washing up liquid bottle,” says Anna (22).

Fans will not have to miss out in future. Works on new premises in Wesselstraße opposite the Carpe Noctem disco are proceeding at full pace. “We hope to be able to open on 20 January,” said Giatzitzoglou on Friday.
