Organizer aims to be climate friendly “Bonn shines” for three days

Bonn · Bonn’s inner city will be colorfully illuminated this weekend as “Bonn shines” takes place once again this year. Organizers are working with climate protection experts to keep it as climate friendly as possible.

Bonn shines once again. According to the organizers, the initiative from City Marketing Bonn is going to be even more beautiful and extravagant than it has been in recent years, and it will focus on climate neutrality in the wake of the World Climate Change Conference.

From Friday, November 3 until Sunday, November 5, buildings and public squares in the city center will be bathed in a colorful sea of lights. As night falls, the Old Town Hall, the Beethoven House and the sculpture by Tony Cragg on Remigiusplatz will be illuminated in a lighting design by Wolfgang Flamersheim. Added to the lights, on the stage in front of the Old Town Hall, acrobatic clowns will be juggling with fire, and at Marktplatz, the Cologne Adventure Museum Odysseum will host a quiz show.

Street food market on the Münsterplatz

For the first time, in addition to the well-known Euromarché on Münsterplatz, there will also be a street food market there. About 30 food trucks will be offering international dishes. Because the World Climate Change Conference takes place in Bonn this year, City Marketing also wanted to set an example and has been working together with the local climate protection expert Cool.

Together, they determined in advance the carbon footprint which will be left by all those involved in the festival. "It's never possible to avoid all emissions, but one can reduce them," says Ekelhof, stressing that this could be offset by a financial contribution for climate protection projects.

A highlight of the three-day lighting extravaganza will be the "illuminated underwater worlds" in the Kaiserpassage. Each day, visitors will have the opportunity to choose from an extensive documentary program about oceans between 5 and 11 pm. Light installations will turn the shop windows into a sea of light, and songs of whales will be heard.
